Extremely full-bodied, low acidity, rich and smooth. Part of a chain of islands in Indonesia, Sumatra is the sixth largest island in the world and the fifth highest. On Sumatra, you may be lucky to see indigenous exotic animals on the critically endangered list, including the Sumatran tiger, rhinoceros, elephant, and orangutan. You will surely see high quality coffee produced on the towering slopes. Many single origin coffees are named after the region in which they grow; however, there is no “Mandheling” region. The name derives from a misunderstanding of the first foreign purchaser of this variety of coffee, who named it after the similarly spelled ethnic group, the Mandaling.
